Manchester City have completed the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal reportedly worth €35 million. The Italian goalkeeper, regarded as one of the best in the world, joins City following Ederson’s move to Fenerbahce.
Donnarumma, who won the Champions League with PSG last season, will undergo his medical before linking up with Pep Guardiola’s squad after the international break. His arrival comes at a crucial moment for City, who have endured a shaky start to the Premier League campaign with one win and two defeats in their first three matches.
The 26-year-old bid farewell to PSG fans earlier this week, expressing disappointment at being sidelined by manager Luis Enrique after the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille. “From the first day I arrived, I gave everything to earn my place. Unfortunately, someone decided I can no longer be part of the group. I am disappointed and disheartened,” Donnarumma wrote on Instagram.
For City, the move provides an experienced and proven replacement for Ederson, who enjoyed huge success in Manchester, winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League before sealing a switch to Turkey. Guardiola had also signed James Trafford from Burnley in the summer, but the young Englishman struggled to convince in City’s opening games.
